What are Dabs?
Before we talk about Dab pens, I will give a brief description of Dabs for the new consumers.
Dabs are a highly concentrated form of cannabis that comes in a variety of products depending on their consistency like wax, shatter, honeycomb, butane hash oil, etc. Dabs are also one of the most potent forms of concentrates in the market and can contain up to 80% to 90% THC.
What is a Dab Pen?
There are a few ways you can consume Dabs. You can either smoke it in a bowl or a joint or use a Dab rig. The setup of a dab rig can be complicated. It consists of a water pipe, and a metal piece called a nail. To dab, you will need a blow torch to heat the nail and another metal tool to get the dab and put it in the nail. So, if you are not familiar with the process, then it can be quite cumbersome and risky for you to master the process of dabbing.
A dab pen is more like a vaporizer just like any other vape pens and e-cigarettes but designed to dab cannabis concentrates such as wax, shatter, or distillate. More and more first-time users are choosing dab pens because they are much easier to use and less complicated.
How does it work?
A Dab pen typically consists of three main components, the chamber or atomizer to hold the concentrates, the battery, and a mouthpiece to inhale the vapor. Most dab pens come with a cylindrical or rectangular heat settings button.
When you place the dab into the atomizer, the coils inside it heats the concentrates to a temperature where it starts melting and release its active ingredients in the form of vapor. Temperature plays a big part in vaporizing. There are different forms of Dabs, and each requires a different temperature for heating. Oily concentrates may need a temperature of around 440°F to 550°F. Others may need lesser heat (360°F to 400°F).
With the heat setting button, you can control the heating temperature. The power button activates the battery to start heating the concentrate inside the chamber, and then sends it to the mouthpiece to inhale.
Dab pens are super convenient to carry and use than a traditional dab rig.
How to use a Dab pen?
Using a Dab pen is really simple. You can follow the 3 easy steps:

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Where can you buy Dab Pens and Cartridges?
You can buy the Cartridges from your local dispensary in all different kinds of strains. Dab pens are available at most convenient stores, or your local smoke shops and they come in different models and sizes.
What is inside of the Dab pen?
Most Dab pens use cartridges. The product inside the cartridges is called the distillate. It is very thick, and almost the same consistency as honey and has very similar properties of Wax or shatter. The manufacturers take an ethanol wash and wash it over marijuana trim. They boil down the solution and then put it through a distillation process to get concentrated THC with some natural terpenes from marijuana.
What are the effects you get from Dab pens?
It is very similar to dab wax or shatter, which gives you a full-body feeling as opposed to the flower, which provides you with that heavy head feeling.
How much do they cost?
As far as prices for the different kinds of pens and cartridges, the pens cost typically $5-$25 depending on what state you are in and the model you decide to buy. The cartridges, however, are going to range anywhere between $20 – $50 for half a gram and $60-$120 for a full gram depending on strains, potency, and brand.
How much THC inside my Dab pen?
The percentage of THC can go anywhere from about 70% to 90% when you compare that to weed, which is about 15% to 36%. A dab pen is a consistent 70%, so they are an excellent choice if you want to have a nice high.
What are the settings on Dab pens?
There are different settings on a dab pen. Most buttons operated pens have three different settings that control the temperature (lowest, medium, and highest). Most people like to keep their pen on the lowest settings because it helps to preserve the longevity of the cartridge.
How long do the cartridges last?
Half a gram usually lasts for 5-7 days, whereas a full gram can last up to two weeks.
How to charge the dab pens?
Many of the new dab pens have a USB port on the bottom for easy access. Some older models have what’s known as a 5-10 thread screw-on attachment that will plug into any USB port and charge the pen for you. Most Dab pens take two hours to charge fully. You can usually get between three to seven days out of a full charge.
Can you refill the cartridges?
The answer is yes. You can buy distillate syringes where you can fill up the cartridges by yourself. It does take quite a bit of time, but you do save a little bit of money.
What do you do with your empty cartridges?
You have a few options. You can take a toothpick and scrape out inside of the cartridge to get the remaining distillate and use that to take a dab. Or you can use that distillate to coat a joint or make moon rocks as well. Another option that you have with your empty cartridge would be to fill it up with another type of oil or trash it.
