What is Tangie Strain?
Tangie is a Sativa dominant hybrid cannabis strain. It received its name for its delightful tangerine aroma. The THC level of this potent strain can range from 19% – 22% and the ratio of Indica and Sativa is 70% / 30%.
Besides its high THC levels, Tangie is also famous for boosting creativity, increasing focus, and relaxation. Fans of Tangie say that it is a tribute to the famous Tangerine Dream strain popular in the 90s.
Tangie won many awards since it hit the market. It won High Times Cannabis Cup over and over again from 2013 till 2018.
Background and Lineage
Tangie is a cross between the hybrid California Orange and an unknown skunk hybrid.
DNA Genetics was the first cultivator of Tangie, and they kept the strain behind closed doors for many years. Then Crockett Family Farm bred Tangie with a new phenotype that blew everyone away and won the first place for Best Sativa at the 2014 High Times Cannabis Cup.
The original Tangerine dream was a cross between California Orange and Skunk # 1, so many believe that breeders use phenotype Skunk No.1 to breed Tangie.
California Orange had low THC but was famous for its potent mental high with fresh citrus smell and flavor. It also increased the creativity and focus of users with mild relaxation.
The other parent of Tangie is an unknown skunk that adds the dream-like mystery.
Breeders like Reserva Privada and DNA army also bred Tangie.
Types of High
Tangie is very popular among the users for its clear-headed uplifting effects. Within half an hour of taking it, you will start to feel more creative, happy, and stress-free. It also boasts a great deal of energy, but you will feel very relaxed and focused at the same time.
Tangie is an ideal strain for afternoon use. It won’t lock you in the couch like most other potent hybrid marijuana strains.
After a long day of work, if you are looking for a bit more energy, you should try Tangie. Not only it boosts your energy and uplift your mood, but Tangie will also increase your appetite. So make sure that you stock up on your favorite snacks.
Medical Benefits
The balanced nature and terpene profile of Tangie makes it a versatile strain for medical users.
Its uplifting effects make this strain an effective antidote to mood disorders such as depression.
Tangie is also a great stress reliever, and its energetic effect helps patients who are struggling with fatigue.
Tangie is not a great pain reliever, so if you are suffering from chronic pain, you should look into other strains such as Cinex, Sour Diesel, ACDC, Harlequin, etc.
Some users of Tangie say that it is a great appetite enhancer.
Adverse Effects
Like any other potent marijuana strains, Tangie has some side effects. The most common are cottonmouth and dry eyes. So, make sure you drink plenty of liquid to keep yourself dehydrated and have eyedrops close by.
Novice users may find Tangie’s potency a bit too much and experience dizziness, anxiety, and mild paranoia.
Growing Tangie Strain
Tangie strain can be grown indoors and outdoors, but cultivators say that they thrive in the soil and warmer climate.
The difficulty of growing Tangie is moderate. If you are a new grower, you should start with other easy to grow strains first.
Growing Indoors
The plant flourishes in a warm and dry climate, but if you are growing it indoors, you will need to maintain the grow-room temperature between 68-85 degrees Fahrenheit.
Use soil instead of hydroponics.
Tangie’s flowering period is around 9-10 weeks, and you can expect a yield of between 14 to 18 ounces per square meter when grown indoors.
The plant grows quite tall and can grow up to 6 feet. It is crucial to trim it regularly to keep its height under control and encourage lateral growth.
Growing Outdoors
Breeders of Tangie recommend it to grow outdoors because of the plants’ height and other considerations.
The ideal harvesting time is around late September or early October, and you can expect a higher yield of 18 ounces or more per plant when you grow it outdoors.
Tips
The Screen of Green method (SCROG) is the recommended growing method for getting the best yield out of your Tangie plant.
To enhance its citrusy orange flavor, feed the plant a variety of nutrients. You can start by using above-average nitrogen levels in the vegetative stage, followed by high phosphorus levels and potassium in the flowering stage.
